Two years after its release via renowned French label Record Makers, Sebastien Tellier’s Sexuality still garners praise from around the globe- and now, we’re excited to announce the release of the official Sexuality Remix album,
due out September 10th!

SebastiAn started the campaign with his version of “Sexual Sportswear,” a classic, as many of his works tend to be. Critically acclaimed Italian/Belgian duo Aeroplane contributes a dancefloor killer of “Kilometer,”
and Kavinsky reworks a stellar version of “Roche.”

German producer-extraordinaire Boys Noize also delivers a unstoppable Eurodance mix pf “L’amour Et La Violence,” while A-Trak does it D-I-S-C-O on “Kilometer.” Other gems from Midnight Juggernauts, Breakbot, Arpanet, Donovan and Danger round out this brilliant remix album,
the only way Record Makers knows how.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Record Makers 10th anniversary celebrations taking place in Los Angeles, including a birthday concert on September 30th @ The El Rey Theater featuring sets by Sebastien Tellier (acoustic show), Kavinsky, Acid Washed, and Turzi.

The 10th anniversary celebration will also include the label’s first ever art show at the Space 15twenty Gallery from September 29-October 3, featuring work by the amazing artists whose contributions have proved vital to the visual world of Record Makers.

Montreal’s Winter Gloves announce western leg of North American tour. The band’s new album All Red available today.

Toronto — Montreal’s Winter Gloves’ fantastic new album All Red is available today from Paper Bag Records on CD, digital download and limited-edition red vinyl. The band are also pleased to announce the remaining western dates on their previously announced North American tour (dates below). “Plastic Slides” is still available for download in its original form along with a new remix of the track from Teen Daze (link below).

All Red is Winter Gloves’ sophomore release on Paper Bag Records, a collection of ten songs that the band had been tinkering with on and off-stage during their past year on the road, and brought back to their Montreal studio to record over the past winter. In a return to the roots of the original EP that first introduced Winter Gloves’ poppy mix of gritty bass and synths sound, All Red was produced by the band’s Charles F (lead singer, guitar, synths). The foursome is rounded out with Patrick Sayers on drums, Vincent Chalifour on bass and synths, and Nico Ormiston on guitar and bringing back the glockenspiel that was a well-mentioned highlight on their debut about a girl album.

With only a handful of live shows behind them at the beginning of 2008, Winter Gloves were already receiving invitations to join bands like Tokyo Police Club on a series of sold-out tour dates. Such well-attended shows helped spread what was becoming the wildfire of the earlier, self-released “Let Me Drive” EP. After the Canadian release of their full-length in the Fall of 2008, the band continued on the same foot as things had started with dates alongside Tokyo Police Club and a slot at Toronto’s Virgin Festival before hitting the road across Canada with You Say Party, Thunderheist and Beast. Reactions to the debut album and these shows immediately secured showcase opportunities at International conferences, invitations for further touring and earned spots on “Best of 2008” year end lists including “Best New Artist” from iTunes Canada.

“All Red defies the boundaries of run-of-the-mill electro-pop with its sophisticated arrangements and clever lyrics. And with only three songs reaching the three-minute mark, Winter Gloves’ preference for the short and sweet is apparent. Wisely, they always leave us wanting more.” – EYE Weekly

“All Red is a fantastic follow-up that shows that time has not slowed down this Montreal band in the least.” – Grayowl Point

“The Montreal quartet achieved their goals with this album, so let a little dance out in celebration.” – Exclaim!

Atari Teenage Riot Signs to Dim Mak Set to Tour North America This Fall Releasing Free Mp3 + Video of “Activate!”

“Founded in Berlin in 1992 as a riposte to their nation’s increasingly neo-nazi influenced techno scene, the reformed Atari Teenage Riot are a reminder of how pop can scare the bejesus out of the thick and the bigoted when it’s done fast, smart and furious as fuck.”
– NME

“It’s rare in a world now ruled by Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber to hear music that is so angry with itself and with everything else around it. But ATR’s overwhelming energy is difficult to deny, and difficult not to admire — preferably from a safe distance.”
– Spin Magazine

After reuniting this past Spring, Alec Empire and Nic Endo (aka Atari Teenage Riot) signed on to Dim Mak. This time they’re joined by ATR newcomer (and Kanye West / Nine Inch Nails collaborator) MC CX Kidtronik. They are a natural fit with Dim Mak, as label-head Steve Aoki is known for his hard electro sound and has roots in the hardcore scene. Check out “Activate!”, here.

Atari Teenage Riot is known for their intense live show, and it’s been reinvigorated by the reunion. Check out the cinematic montage of furious industrial, rave-rock chaos in the video for “Activate!”, directed by Zan Lyons, here. Watch for the crowd’s reaction as they invade the stage during ATR’s reunion at Fusion 2010, here. Want to be part of the action? Atari Teenage Riot will be heading on tour throughout North America this fall with Autoerotique. For dates and cities, please see below.

Atari Teenage Riot was the first to blend noise with electronic, usually performaing music that was too offensive or loud for the mainstream. Their lyrics were intensely politcal, leading to their albums being censored in Germany throughout their career. In the late 90s Atari Teenage Riot emerged out of the electronica genre, to subvert all rules of rock and techno music. The original conception was Alec Empire’s and when joined by Hanin Elias, Nic Endo and Carl Crack on stage, the mixed race, mixed sex image of the band provoked people before they even heard the music.

A BAD THINK- “SARA LEE”

Michael Marquart has been making his living as a musician and producer all his life. The talented drummer, guitarist, keyboard player, singer and producer has played with A Flock of Seagulls and the Canadian supergroup Alias, but it’s the music he makes with his studio project, A Bad Think, that’s closest to his heart.

Sara Lee, A Bad Think’s third outing, is an expansive musical tapestry. The album’s chiming guitars, rich, brooding bass lines, ghostly flutes and inventive percussion occupy a vast sonic and emotional space that pulls listeners into the unstable emotional world Marquart explores with these songs.

“Sara Lee is a suite,” Marquart explains. “The songs move between past and future, dealing with the missed connections and limitations that are part of every life. They convey moods and feelings, as well as narrative flow, with unexpected shifts in tempo, volume and instrumentation. The lyrics are vague, so everyone can imagine their own story.”

The eight songs and two instrumentals on the album tell the story of a waitress and the customer she’s seen every day for decades, two people with an imaginary, but nonetheless real, relationship. Marquart’s whispered vocal on “Overstay” simmers with unexpressed passion. Chiming acoustic guitar arpeggios and a glacial, R&B flavored bass line pull the emotions in opposing directions. “The Love Song” is more upbeat, a bossa nova, as played by a country band, highlighted by twangy guitar, smooth harmony vocals and eerie flutes.

“Home” is a melancholy ballad with a sly reference to The Wizard of Oz in its lyric, set off by a sea of ambient guitars. “Gives You Change” is a funky laid back rocker, but Marquart’s downbeat vocal undercuts the song’s jaunty rhythm. As Sara Lee approaches her customer with the change for his meal, he dreams of another change he can’t find the courage to make.

Marquart produced Sara Lee at his home studio in Virginia Beach, with his daughter Samantha on lead and harmony vocals; Don Burford, another Flock Of Seagulls alumnus, on bass; Richard Arbus on Fender Rhodes and engineer Skip Derupa. “There are many layers of guitar, keyboard, percussion and ambient sound, but it’s not pop music,” Marquart says. “It’s more like a painting for your ears, an impressionistic flow meant to stimulate your imagination.” Marquart’s supporting the album with a dark video for “Overstay” directed by Derrick Borte (The Joneses).

The band’s cryptic name is in keeping with Marquart’s pragmatic view of life’s tribulations. “When my kids had nightmares, they used to call them ‘a bad think.’ I’d tell ‘em, ‘Go back to bed and close your eyes and it’ll go away.’ A bad think is something that may not be positive, but it’s not a nightmare.”

Marquart was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and started playing drums when he was six. “My hometown was like Mayberry; everyone knew everyone. When I heard the sound of drums coming out of a neighbor’s basement, I peeked through the window. This kid had a sparkling new red drum set and I started hanging out with him.” After Marquart played along to a few Monkees’ records, music took over his life. “In grammar school and high school, I was in choir, marching band, barbershop quartets and musicals. In college, I majored in music, playing jazz/fusion and rock. I taught myself drums, guitar, keyboards, bass and trombone.”

After graduation, Marquart played original music in a band called Diogenes. They ruled the Mid-West in the 80s, but never made an album. Between gigs, he became a producer and session drummer. He moved to Virginia Beach to start Windmark Studios, just before the city became a major R&B and hip-hop hub. Windmark hosted sessions by Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, N’Synch, No Doubt, Sponge, Frente and Dishwalla. Marquart also toured and recorded with Flock of Seagulls, the Canadian supergroup Alias and dozens of other outfits.

He eventually sold Windmark to N.E.R.D, built his own home studio and started producing his Bad Think albums. “My sound isn’t commercial, but it comes from my heart,” Marquart says. “I’m not a solo artist or band, just a guy who creates sad, moody music for grown ups. I want to look at everything that can happen to us as humans, no matter how challenging, and find the glimmer of sunshine that’s waiting for us at the end of the night.”
